At some point in our lives, we’ve all been or will all be affected by cancer. Whether it’s a friend, family member, colleague or even yourself; the dreaded C-Word is one nobody wants to hear.
Today marks World Cancer Day 2017 and, even though we can’t completely eradicate the disease (yet), we can do our best to try and stop it in its tracks. Which is why I’ve decided to take on Machu Picchu this September.
Led by the brilliant Welsh comedian, Rhod Gilbert, I’ll be trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, thanks to a charity very close to my heart: Velindre Cance Centre. Our official charity partner, Velindre provide services for over 1.5 million cancer sufferers across South East Wales and other areas.
They strive to support cancer patients and their families through the difficult times cancer presents, and their specially trained, highly committed staff strive every day to make this time as comfortable as possible.
Just like the ten-day trek ahead, however, beating cancer will be a long journey. But, if we all do our bit, I truly believe we can cross that finish line sooner, rather than later.
From a personal point of view, I’m looking forward to what will no doubt be my toughest fitness challenge to date. More exciting still, is the prospect of raising even more money for this amazing charity.
And, that said, I’d really appreciate if you could head over to my JustGiving page, donating whatever you can.
