Of all Don Draper’s quotes, not one better sums up the industry in which we work than, ‘Advertising is based one thing: happiness.’ Despite his faults and flaws, however, he was right on this one.
Having plied my trade across a variety of industries at a plethora of companies, I can safely say that none have made me happier than advertising and S3, respectively. Today marks International Day of Happiness and, even though it’s taken me nearly 30 years to actually understand what happiness is, the answer is actually pretty straight forward.
Happiness, as far as I’m concerned, is defined by the people we surround ourselves with.
Thankfully, I’m surrounded by happy, talented and inspiring people every day here at S3. Sure, coming into an office with a ball pit, cinema, bar, mini golf course (I could go on) is incredible – but it’s the people who truly make S3 Advertising such a positive, happy place to work.
If happiness was indeed infectious, as they say, then the collective strain we’d put on the NHS as a result would be worrying. Even though it’s tough to pinpoint exactly what makes this agency so special, when people ask me what it’s like to work here, my reply is as usually as follows:
“You know how you dread Sunday nights; that fear of going into the office the following morning with a heavy, unwanted weight on your shoulders? I don’t get that… ever. It’s actually Friday nights I hate the most; the feeling of spending the weekend away from The Pride is the same feeling you get every Sunday before bed.”
I guess that’s what happens when you live and breathe the motto, ‘PEOPLE FIRST’: as an agency, we put each other’s happiness at the top of the agenda, in the same way close-knit friends or a family do.
And that’s exactly what The Pride is: a really happy family, who just happen to run an advertising agency.
