How S3 Helped the FAW Make Wales #TOGETHERSTRONGER

The beautiful game. The universal language. Football.

Call it what you will, there’s no denying its power in bringing nations together, creating pride, joy and unity as 11 individuals bear their country’s colours and crest. Wanting to use outdoor advertising to instil pride and passion behind the Welsh football team, Wales’ football governing body, the FAW, approached us prior to the 2016 European Championships.

Working alongside the FAW, we wanted to push the boundaries, establishing the biggest, most disruptive media formats that would reach people in city centres, engaging them while also creating traction on social media and in the press.

Which is why, on the beautiful, sunny morning of June 9th, 2016, we erected a giant Wales shirt within the Alliance Ring structure outside Cardiff Library.

By the time the shirt had been installed at 9am, people were already talking, with 136,000 impressions, 700 clicks and 300 retweets on Twitter alone.

Not wanting to limit our client’s reach to Cardiff only, we also secured permission to wrap Swansea’s LC building with fixtures.

The result?

Truly unique, bold advertising centrepieces for our client that got a nation talking, catapulting the Welsh national football team to the forefront of the country’s psyche.
