As many see a new year as a new start, it can lead to an influx of people searching the market for a new opportunity. Not to miss the chance to snap up exciting new talent, we have been searching for fresh faces to assist in making 2020 S3’s most successful year yet. And, in February alone, we welcomed no fewer than six new members of #TeamS3 into The Lion’s Den.
Well, that’s not quite true…
Firstly, we welcomed back Alyssa Nievera, who – after a stint as our Junior Web Developer last year – was enticed back as a fully-fledged Web Dev.

Alyssa says, “I missed the culture and how close everyone is at S3. I also wanted a new challenge and look forward to seeing myself grow further within the agency.”
Also coming back through the doors of the Lion’s Den is George Neeson. George is one of the many graduates of the S3 Academy to have been offered a full-time role after impressing during the internship. George joins as Campaigns Administrator – a new role that will see him liaise with all departments to ensure the smooth running of client campaigns.
Speaking of making sure things are running smoothly, Ffian Jones is S3’s brand-new Studio Traffic Controller who has been brought on board to support the management of agency time, ensuring all integrated campaigns are delivered efficiently. With a background of working in the fashion industry, Ffian was attracted to S3’s exciting and dynamic workplace – returning home to Wales from London to join the team.
Sat next to Ffian within our full-service creative agency is another Cardiff returnee. After working in digital marketing and advertising agencies including Havas and AKQA for nearly 11 years – winning, developing and leading global blue chip accounts – Matt Lewis joins as our new Business Relationship Manager.
“For me… agility, flexibility and the ability to produce fantastic creative define S3, and I really believe this will appeal to more and more clients as we grow the agency’s reputation.” says Matt.
Matt will work closely alongside both our Management & Leadership teams to help develop our vision and growth strategy, enabling the agency to unlock its full creative potential.
“That’s what attracted me to S3, and why I’m excited to be here; we have an abundance of talent that is only just getting started.”
One of those showcasing their talents is new Web Designer, Alex Colbourne. A graduate from USW with first-class honours, Alex has been a graphic designer based in and around Cardiff for almost 10 years.
Asked about why he chose S3, Alex said: “When I saw the job advert come up I was actually in the middle of a break between roles, planning on taking a month or so to consider my next move in the industry, but I knew the vacancy was an opportunity I couldn’t miss out on and so sent my application in straight away.”
Alex has a wide range of experience within design and will be an effective asset to S3, not only specialising in Web but within a multitude of design disciplines.
Last (but certainly not least) is James Cavanagh, the latest member of our award-winning Digital Marketing team. James – who comes from a professional services background – has plenty of agency experience, working on some rewarding projects such as Speedway Grand Prix and with clients including Clarks Maple Syrup.
Speaking about his time at S3 so far, our newest Digital Account Manager says; “As cliché as it seems, the environment is a huge factor in why S3 appealed to me. It’s not just ball-pits, dogs and drinks on Fridays, but the culture I haven’t found elsewhere that I’ve already experienced here within such a short space of time.”
HR & Operations Director Mel Matthews concludes, “We’re so excited to welcome in such an abundance of new talent. Not only are we welcoming back people who’d previously left us, but our S3 Academy is also continuing to allow the brightest and best talent from various universities a nurturing environment to prove themselves and – if welcomed onboard full time – produce outstanding work and campaigns for our clients.
“Dare I say we’re not stopping there, either.
“This was only February’s intake. We’ve already welcomed even more new faces to One Central Square in the first two weeks of March alone – so keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn feeds as we introduce them very soon!”
