I’ve always been told that “your school years will be the best years of your life”. And it’s a saying that has definitely proved true for me – up until to the very first time I stepped through the doors of The Lion’s Den, that is.
Some people might think that’s a bit of a sweeping statement – especially coming from a second-year uni student who genuinely loves her lectures, nights out and lie-ins. But it’s true. Why?
Because if the first month of my internship at S3 has taught me anything, it’s that there is an even more exciting place that exists outside of university.
A place that provides an exciting atmosphere in which to work hard, play hard – and strive harder. During my time at the agency, I’ve enjoyed a taste of life as a creative copywriter, social media marvel, PR pro and digital devotee. Trying to pick my favourite role, however, is like trying to pick my fave Love Island character: impossible.
Whilst with social and PR, I was tasked with researching, planning and writing content for social media posts.
And, even though I was confident working on all these tasks, I learnt so many extra things from being able to work on live briefs – as well as the opportunity to communicate with clients and other departments within the agency.
Now, I was told to write this post from the perspective of an intern; but to be honest, my perspective is no different from anyone else’s – simply because I have been treated as part of the S3 family since day one.
There’s no doubt about it: the people who work at S3 are very talented. But that talent is about so much more than just being good at what they do: it’s about a talent that sees them all collaboratively work towards and maintain the kind of unique culture that sets them apart from any other workplace.
As a result, I will now be going into my final year of university with a solid understanding of a fully integrated agency, newfound confidence in my ability and – perhaps most important of all – a genuine excitement for my career following graduation.
Yes, I know that means having to wait 12 months to return to The Lion’s Den – not least to have another shot at breaking the 18-hole scoring record for the office crazy golf course!
In the meantime, therefore, I’d just like to say thank you for having me, #TeamS3.
